An inexpensive variable inductor has inductance value continuously changeable without reducing a Q value. When a control voltage is applied to a control terminal of a MOS transistor from a power supply, a continuity region is formed in a channel, and a region between main terminals becomes conductive. When the control voltage is changed, length of the continuity region in the channel is changed. This changes length of a path area of an induced current, flowing in an induced current film. Thus, the amount of induced current is increased or decreased. Therefore, when the control voltage of the MOS transistor is changed, the inductance value of the coil is continuously changed.

These polyolefins display a large decrease in crystallinity relative to polyolefins known in the art. Specifically, the reduction in crystallinity is much greater than for earlier polypropylenes with a matched content of stereo or 1-alkene type defects. The claimed polyolefins can be made by a late metal Ni(II) catalyst. The defects in the polyolefin backbone are generated by a chain waling mechanism in which three or more carbons per monomer are added to the polymer backbone instead of two, as in conventional polymerization or copolymerization methods of alpha olefins. The novel polyolefins can be used in applications such as plastic wrapping, thin films, co-extrusion layers or molded parts in the absence of polymer blending or copolymerization. The cost of materials production can be reduced.

Structured automotive catalysts which comprise a plurality of different catalytically active coatings arranged above one another on a support body and whose coatings contain transition metals and porous support materials are well known. Structured automotive catalysts of this type which do not belong to the group of three-way catalysts, in particular, frequently display large selectivity losses after thermal aging processes which can be attributed to the thermally induced migration of transition metal atoms from one layer into the neighboring coating. The introduction of a diffusion barrier which slows or prevents the thermally induced migration of transition metal atoms from one catalytically active layer into the other increases the thermal aging stability of such catalysts significantly.

Vapor-liquid-solid growth of nanowires is tailored to achieve complex one-dimensional material geometries using phase diagrams determined for nanoscale materials. Segmented one-dimensional nanowires having constant composition display locally variable electronic band structures that are determined by the diameter of the nanowires. The unique electrical and optical properties of the segmented nanowires are exploited to form electronic and optoelectronic devices. Using gold-germanium as a model system, in situ transmission electron microscopy establishes, for nanometer-sized Au—Ge alloy drops at the tips of Ge nanowires (NWs), the parts of the phase diagram that determine their temperature-dependent equilibrium composition. The nanoscale phase diagram is then used to determine the exchange of material between the NW and the drop. The phase diagram for the nanoscale drop deviates significantly from that of the bulk alloy.

A system and method for a fantasy sporting event game that reduces the requirement that the game player be skilled in the sport, or have knowledge of the sport. The method resolves the competition with a single actual sporting event as opposed to a season. The fantasy team players, chosen from players participating in the live sporting event, are randomly assigned to the fantasy teams. Team owners sign on after a live sporting event has been selected. Game players are then each assigned team members to fill out their rosters. An actual live player may be assigned to more than one team. Likewise, the fantasy teams established need not contain an actual live player from each of the positions for the particular sporting event. Variations as to the number of players on a fantasy team and the duration of the one-game time period are anticipated.

A corresponding relation between heat resistance values of first heat dissipation modules under a non-uniform heat source and heat resistance values of the first heat dissipation modules under a uniform heat source is described through a linear equation. Therefore, before second heat dissipation modules are tested, a calculation is performed with the linear equation, such that a target heat resistance value of the first heat dissipation modules arranged on the non-uniform heat source is corresponding to a standard heat resistance value of the first heat dissipation modules arranged on the uniform heat source. Afterwards, it is predicted whether the second heat dissipation modules arranged on the non-uniform heat source satisfy a test standard or not by using a test heat resistance value acquired by testing the second heat dissipation modules arranged on the uniform heat source.
