A film of material may be formed by providing a semiconductor substrate having a surface region and a cleave region located at a predetermined depth beneath the surface region. During a process of cleaving the film from the substrate, shear in the cleave region is carefully controlled. According to certain embodiments, an in-plane shear component (KII) is maintained near zero, sandwiched between a tensile region and a compressive region. In one embodiment, cleaving can be accomplished using a plate positioned over the substrate surface. The plate serves to constrain movement of the film during cleaving, and together with a localized thermal treatment reduces shear developed during the cleaving process. According to other embodiments, the KII component is purposefully maintained at a high level and serves to guide and drive fracture propagation through the cleave sequence. In one embodiment, the high KII component is achieved by adiabatic heating of silicon through exposure to E-beam radiation, which imparts a highly abrupt thermal gradient and resulting stress at a precisely defined depth in the silicon.

During an analysis technique, the locations of a polyp candidate (and, more generally, a feature) in images of the colon acquired with different orientations of an individual are compared to determine if the polyp candidate is a true positive (an actual polyp) or a false positive (an artifact). In particular, the locations are compared for images when the individual is supine and prone. During this rotation by approximately 180° (and, more generally, a symmetry operation), an actual polyp is expected to also be rotated by approximately 180°. Consequently, the location change during the symmetry operation can be used to validate whether the polyp candidate is an actual polyp. Because the colon is a non-rigid object (with degrees of freedom including rotation, compression and expansion), reference markers (such as haustral folds) are used to assist in determining the location of the polyp candidate in the images acquired in the different orientations.

A system that validates a native code module. During operation, the system receives a native code module comprised of untrusted native program code. The system validates the native code module by: (1) determining that code in the native code module does not include any restricted instructions and/or does not access restricted features of a computing device; and (2) determining that the instructions in the native code module are aligned along byte boundaries such that a specified set of byte boundaries always contain a valid instruction and control flow instructions have valid targets. The system allows successfully-validated native code modules to execute, and rejects native code modules that fail validation. By validating the native code module, the system facilitates safely executing the native code module in the secure runtime environment on the computing device, thereby achieving native code performance for untrusted program binaries without significant risk of unwanted side effects.

A compiler method for exploiting data value locality for computation reuse. When a code region having single entry and exit points and in which a potential computation reuse opportunity exists is identified during runtime, a helper thread is created separate from the master thread. One of the helper thread and master thread performs a computation specified in the code region, and the other of the helper thread and master thread looks up a value of the computation previously executed and stored in a lookup table. If the value of the computation previously executed is located in the lookup table, the other thread retrieves the value from the table, and ignores the computation performed by the thread. If the value of the computation is not located, the other thread obtains a result of the computation performed by the thread and stores the result in the lookup table for future computation reuse.

Apparatus and method for a ring oscillator based random number generator with intentional startup delays timed for each ring to provide a uniform initial spreading of the ring oscillator transition edges. This invention adds a controlled incremental delay in the startup of each individual ring within the ring oscillator random number generator. Typically the delay units used in the ring oscillators themselves can be used to get a course delay between the start times of each ring. A subset of the rings start up with a particular course delay and different fine delays such that the transition edges of all the rings are spread out over the oscillation period. This spreading of the transition edges ensures the output of the random number generator are not a predictable sequence of ones and zeros based on a simultaneous startup of all rings at the same time.

Embodiments of the invention include a luminaire with an elongated luminaire body and at least one longitudinal luminaire flange each of which extend longitudinally from one end of the luminaire body. The luminaire body being shorter than the luminaire length measured from the ends of both longitudinal luminaire flanges. The luminaire body can include a channel with a plurality of light sources, optical elements, power lines, and/or control lines. A connector is also disclosed according to some embodiments of the invention that can be used to physically and/or electrically couple two luminaires together. The connector can couple the luminaires at a T-bar.

An electrical interface module (EIM) is provided between an LED illumination device and a light fixture. The EIM includes an arrangement of contacts that are adapted to be coupled to an LED illumination device and a second arrangement of contacts that are adapted to be coupled to the light fixture and may include a power converter. Additionally, an LED selection module may be included to selectively turn on or off LEDs. A communication port may be included to transmit information associated with the LED illumination device, such as identification, indication of lifetime, flux, etc. The lifetime of the LED illumination device may be measured and communicated, e.g., by an RF signal, IR signal, wired signal or by controlling the light output of the LED illumination device. An optic that is replaceably mounted to the LED illumination device may include, e.g., a flux sensor that is connected to the electrical interface.

A light emitting apparatus comprises: an LED-based light source; a spherical, spheroidal, or toroidal diffuser generating a Lambertian light intensity distribution output at any point on the diffuser surface responsive to illumination inside the diffuser; and a base including a base connector. The LED based light source, the diffuser, and the base are secured together as a unitary LED lamp installable in a lighting socket by connecting the base connector with the lighting socket. The diffuser is shaped and arranged respective to the LED based light source in the unitary LED lamp to conform with an isolux surface of the LED based light source. The base is operatively connected with the LED based light source in the unitary LED lamp to electrically power the LED based light source using electrical power received at the base connector.

An adjustable supporting device includes a pivotal connection device and two supporting members individually pivotally connected to the pivotal connection device. The pivotal connection device includes a rotational restriction mechanism including a driving part and a restricting part connected to the driving part. The restricting part is capable of being driven by the driving part so as to move relative to the supporting members. Therein, the restricting part is capable of entering limitation ranges of rotational restriction structures of the supporting members simultaneously for individually limiting rotation ranges of the supporting members relative to the pivotal connection device according to the rotational restriction structures. Therefore, by designing the above rotation ranges, the adjustable supporting device can avoid damage to a user due to an unexpected folding of the supporting members, before the restricting part entirely departs from the limitation ranges of the rotation ranges of the supporting members.

A fluid conduit dielectric nipple for securement to a tank wall of a fluid holding tank, such as a steel tank of a water heater is described. The fluid conduit dielectric nipple has a tank securement end and a cylindrical conduit connecting end specifically configured for receiving a push-fit quick connector to secure to a water supply line and a hot water return line. The fluid conduit dielectric nipple is fabricated from inexpensive metal, such as plated steel, and has a plastics liner to protect parts thereof intended to be exposed to water to prevent corrosion while providing a leak-proof connection. Accordingly, there is provided an inexpensive dielectric nipple which provides quick connection and disconnection.

The present invention relates to fluid delivery systems comprising valve assemblies that provide for a more stable and reliable delivery system for a fluid, for example a gaseous fluid, from a tank by utilizing vacuum to open the normally closed valves assemblies. The present invention also relates to methods of delivering a fluid from a tank, assembling and operating the valves assemblies, as well as retrofitting existing tanks with such systems.
