Techniques herein minimize memory needed to store distances between vertices of a graph for use during a multi-source breadth-first search (MS-BFS). In an embodiment, during each iteration of a first sequence of iterations of a MS-BFS, a computer updates a first matrix that contains elements that use a first primitive integer type having a first width to record a distance from a source vertex of a graph to another vertex. The computer detects that a count of iterations of the first sequence of iterations exceeds a threshold. Responsively, the computer creates a second matrix that contains elements that use a second primitive integer type having a second width that is larger than the first width to record a distance from a source vertex of the graph to another vertex. During each iteration of a second sequence of iterations of the MS-BFS, the computer updates the second matrix.

An ontology is automatically generated for a set of data from multiple data sources. A semantic network of known concepts serves as an ontology template for a target domain of knowledge with known concepts defined as base entity types. Logical groupings of data and associated technical metadata are read from the data sources. Data discovery techniques are applied to detect semantic and/or syntactic classification of data attributes in the logical groupings of data. For each of the logical groupings of data, an entity type with properties for the data attributes are generated and the generated entity type is added to the semantic network with classifications of the properties as derived from the applied data discovery techniques. Semantic meanings of the generated entity types are generated and associated with other entity types within the semantic network and the semantic network is output as a resultant ontology for the set of data.

Reductions in churn for assigning identifiers to entities in a knowledge graph enables several improvements to the functionality of the computing devices maintaining or accessing knowledge graphs. As the aliases or other terms used to identify a given entity change in response to updates to the knowledge graph, the identifiers assigned to various entities may change. For example, two individual entities conflated as one node may be split into two or two nodes merged into one in response to an update, and existing identifiers should be used to reduce churn. To select the existing identifiers to assign to a given updated entity, the aliases are clustered with the updated entities and the unique modal prior identifier is assigned as the identifier for the updated entity. Higher orders of modality are used to ensure as many existing identifiers are used before creating new identifiers.

When an overall vibration state of the mechanical system deviates by at least a threshold from an expected vibration state, the edge device can send the data to a server for diagnostic processing. The edge device can thus monitor for a pre-failure condition that suggests an upcoming failure or a need for service. With selective sending of sensor data, the bandwidth and processing associated with diagnostics can be reserved for situations more likely indicative of a condition needing diagnosing, rather than performing constant diagnostic processing.

A CTS nozzle achieves the object of reducing rubber chips produced when the CTS nozzle is inserted into and extracted from a rubber plug of a sample container during dispensing of a sample, thereby inhibiting the wear of the tip of the CTS nozzle. The CTS nozzle has two cut surfaces at its tip, and the pressure applied from the rubber when the nozzle is inserted into the rubber plug is dispersed onto the two cut surfaces without being deflected onto one of the cut surfaces. The pressure applied to the nozzle due to the resilience of the rubber being pushed away by the nozzle is thus dispersed and the rubber chips produced by the friction between the cut surfaces of the nozzle and the rubber are reduced. As a result of the reduced friction, the wear of the tip of the nozzle is minimized.

A wire cross-sectional shape for a wire wrap screen provides a primary and secondary gap with a contained circumferential volume in between. The secondary gap extends screen life by taking the place of the primary gap if erosion opens the primary gap and lets the larger solids get past. The closed space between the primary and secondary gaps also has the effect of reducing velocity due to the enlarged volume before the secondary gap is reached while also creating turbulence between the gaps to slow the fluid velocity to protect the secondary gap. All or parts of the wire outer surface can optionally be coated to extend service life.
