    Abstract: High-speed optical communication is very attractive to satisfy high throughput applications. In the meanwhile, it is also desirable to reduce the energy waste resulted from an idle state of the optical transceivers of the communication system. The present invention discloses that both the access point (1200) and the end point device (1100) can operate in at least two different operation states, a normal operation state and a low power state. The low power state is a default state, and the normal operation state is enabled only when a valid trigger is detected. To establish a high-speed optical link (60), the end point device (1100) first sends an optical trigger signal (50) to the access point (1200) in the low power state. The access pint (1200) switches to the normal operation state only when a valid trigger signal is identified after detecting the optical trigger signal (50).

    Abstract: The invention further describes tube LED lamp (1) realised to replace a fluorescent tube lamp (70), which tube LED lamp (1) comprises a tube (12) containing an LED arrangement (10) with a number of LEDs (100); a connector arrangement (16A, 16B) with connectors (16) realized for insertion into sockets (50) of a socket arrangement (50A, 50B) of a tube lamp housing (5) incorporating a dimming ballast (20, 21); a driver circuit arrangement (11) for driving the LED arrangement (10), which driver circuit arrangement (11) is realized to output an LED current (ILED) on the basis of an input current provided by the dimming ballast (20, 21); and a safety switch (S13, M1) arranged within the tube (12) to electrically isolate connectors (16) of the connector arrangement (16A, 16B), wherein the safety switch (S13, M1) is arranged between the driver circuit arrangement (11) and the LED arrangement (10). The invention further describes a method of driving a tube LED lamp (1) from a dimming ballast (20, 21) of a fluorescent tube lamp (70).

    Abstract: The invention provides a retrofit LED lamp driver having a shunt switch to alternately shunt (for a first duration) and not shunt (for a second duration) received AC power. The first duration is concurring with a first polarity of each AC cycle of the AC power, for a first period comprising at least one AC cycle, and the first duration is concurring in a second, opposite polarity of the AC power, for a second period comprising another at least one AC cycle not overlapping with the first duration. Alternating the first and second periods are provided. Any DC offset in the current drawn caused by the shunting operation is thereby cancelled over time.

    Abstract: In a multi-cell wireless communication system (100) with at least one optical access point (120) and at least one radio frequency access point (120), more flexibility is provided to an end device (110) in selecting an access point (120) for establishing a data link. Because of the line-of-sight characteristic of an optical link and the limited field of view of an optical receiver, optical cells are typically deployed with a relatively high density and adjacent optical cells may have an overlapping area. This invention discloses a method of an end device (110) for selecting a favorable access point (120) with reduced overhead, even when the end device is located in the overlapping area of two adjacent optical cells.

    Abstract: A tubular solid state lighting device has a pin safety circuit electrically connected to connection pins of the one end. The pin safety circuit comprises two protection components, of different types. In one set of examples, there is an electrically controlled isolation switch and an electronic switch which functions as a high voltage isolation barrier. The switch provides full galvanic contact separation, whereas the isolation barrier provides current protection if the isolation switch is not functional. In another set of examples, there is a mechanically controlled isolation switch and an electrical or electronic isolation barrier. This provides two levels of protection, but requiring only a single manual operation by the installer of the lighting device. It avoids end-of-life protection circuitry being triggered during the installation of the lighting device.
