    Abstract: A power factor correction circuit steps up and power-factor-corrects a rectified voltage, which has been rectified from an AC input voltage of an AC power source Vin, through an ON/OFF operation of a switching element Q1 and supplies a stepped-up output voltage to a DC-DC converter that is driven with a first pulse signal. The power factor correction circuit includes a delay circuit to receive the first pulse signal whose pulse width corresponds to an output voltage of the DC-DC converter, generate, in response to an ON pulse of the first pulse signal, a delay pulse signal whose pulse width corresponds to the rectified voltage, and synthesize the first pulse signal and the delay pulse signal into a second pulse signal. The power factor correction circuit also includes a driver to drive the switching element according to the second pulse signal.

    Abstract: A switching power supply device has a boost power converter which converts a wide range of AC input voltages into a DC voltage larger than an amplitude of the AC input voltage to supply to a DC-DC converter. The switching power supply device includes a load detection circuit, an input voltage detection circuit, and a power conversion controller for the boost power converter. The power conversion controller corrects the determination reference value in accordance with the AC input voltage detected in the input voltage detection circuit. When a light load is detected based on a comparison between the corrected determination reference value and the detection value output from the load detection circuit, the controller disables the boost power converter.

    Abstract: A DC power source device comprises a MOS-FET 5 which performs the intermittent switching operation for converting DC input from a DC power supply 1 into high frequency electric power; a control circuit 9 for turning MOS-FET 5 on and off; and a rectifying smoother 6 for converting the high frequency electric power through MOS-FET 5 into a DC power output supplied to a load 50. Control circuit 9 comprises an output current controller 11 for controlling the on-off term of MOS-FET 5 to make DC output current IO through load 50 settle toward a rated value IOMAX; a shunt regulator 24 for receiving a drive current ISH supplied from rectifying smoother 6 and producing a reference voltage VR1 to regulate the rated value IOMAX of output current controller 11; and a constant current source 32 for keeping drive current ISH on a substantially constant level under the rated output current value condition and reduced output voltage condition. Constant current source 32 functions to supply shunt regulator 24 with minimum drive current ISH to maintain reference voltage VREF on a constant level under the reduced output voltage, and also to control drive current ISH to shunt regulator 24 to a necessary but minimum level under the rated value of DC output current.
