Abstract:
An apparatus includes a character extraction unit configured to extract a character string from a document including layout information, a character width acquisition unit configured to acquire space character width information, and a spacing amount determination unit configured to determine a spacing amount of each inter-character space based on the character string extracted by the character extraction unit and the layout information. The apparatus further includes an insertion unit configured to determine whether a space character is to be included in each inter-character space based on the spacing amount of each inter-character space determined by the spacing amount determination unit and the space character width information acquired by the character width acquisition unit, and to insert a space character code into an inter-character space in which a space character is determined to be included.
Abstract:
An information processing apparatus for editing a document including a first layer and a second layer. The information processing apparatus determines, when a first layer is selected as a target layer, whether an object in a second page of the first layer, which follows a first page, can be relocated to a blank region in the first page of the first layer. When it is determined that the object in the second page of the first layer can be relocated, the information processing apparatus locates the object in the second page of the first layer to the first page of the first layer.
Abstract:
This character recognition method is capable of determining the direction of row of characters, applicable to a language which can be written in horizontal or vertical direction, such as Japanese. The method takes projections in both directions, by counting black pixels, and compares the obtained counts with a threshold value (or with each other). The text is identified as horizontally or vertically written, respectively, according as the count exceeds the threshold value more in the horizontal or vertical direction. A projection is taken again in the perpendicular direction, after the writing direction is determined, to extract each character, which is subjected to character recognition in known manner. Thus the method can achieve automatic recognition, without instruction of the direction of writing by the operator.
Abstract:
An apparatus for recognizing characters or patterns from handwritten information. The apparatus is provided with plural methods of recognition, and a suitable method of recognition is selected according to the requirement of the user for recognizing the handwritten information.
Abstract:
An electronic document generating apparatus adds, if the same attribute as an attribute of a layer to be processed of an original electronic document is not stored in a layer attribute DB, the attribute to the layer attribute DB, and analyzes an OBJ of a layer of the page to be processed in the original electronic document, and if the OBJ is an OBJ whose size-reduction is not permitted, stores “reduction-inhibited OBJ: ON” in the layer attribute DB as one of the attributes of the layer, and if the OBJ is an OBJ that includes personal data, stores “personal data: ON” in the layer attribute DB as one of the attributes of the layer, and further performs imposition of the page to be processed in the original electronic document according to the content of the layer attribute DB and an imposition method designated by the user.
Abstract:
When the processing of process steps of a print job that includes job definition information showing the process steps of a printing process and information relating to drawing data used in printing is executed by devices, a printing control apparatus connected to the devices determines whether the processing content of a target print job has been changed by the devices from a processing content defined by the job definition information, and, if determined that the processing content has been changed, collects the job definition information defining the changed processing content.
Abstract:
Conventionally, in displaying a document on a display, the document is displayed on the display after an image of the document is drawn off-screen once. Thus, it may take long until the image of the document can be checked when it is drawn for the first time. In an image processing apparatus of this invention, every time a predetermined number of drawing elements among drawing elements included in document data are developed off-screen, it is checked whether or not the developed off-screen drawing elements satisfy intermediate drawing conditions and, when it is determined that the intermediate drawing conditions are satisfied, the developed off-screen drawing elements are drawn on the display.

Abstract:
A print processing apparatus includes a margin reduction processing unit that saves printed papers by changing the positions of objects such as texts or drawings configuring document data in a predetermined layout direction. The margin detection unit specifies the distances of the margin portions between objects adjacent in the layout direction. The margin reduction effect prediction unit sums the distances of the margin portions, and multiplies the percentage of the summation result relative to the number of pages processed by the number of pages for the entire document to thereby calculate reduction prediction information about printed papers when performing margin reduction print processing. The prediction display unit displays the reduction prediction information about printed papers prior to margin reduction print execution.
