Abstract: A universal identity and physical presence detection in the form of a personal, universal transponder signal is described. This signal allows a user to interact with devices in the user's environment without having to download vendor-specific apps, set up vendor-specific accounts or be limited to a siloed eco-system of a manufacturer brand. The universal signal representing an individual allows for devices and software to detect and query the beacon transmitting the signal for information relating to the user and augmented onto the physical environment. This provides a more personalized, efficient, and, in some instances, secure experience for the user. Embodiments focus on minimizing user workload to allow for seamless interactions with her environment. Various embodiments provide a truly universal signal for all users and devices to interact, wherein all parties benefit from a seamless and natural way of interacting in the physical world.

Abstract: A method for a system includes broadcasting with a first transceiver of a transit terminal to a smart device, a first identifier, receiving with the first transceiver from the smart device, an ephemeral ID not permanently associated with a user of the smart device, providing with the first transceiver to the smart device, a second identifier and a unique data packet, receiving with the first transceiver from the smart device a token determined by an authentication server in response to the second identifier and the unique data packet and wherein the token comprises a payload portion, determining with a processor of the transit terminal whether the token is valid, and directing with the processor a peripheral device to perform a user-perceptible action for the user, authorizing the user to enter or exit a transit system associated with the transit terminal in response to determining the token to be valid.

Abstract: A control system includes a reader device including a transceiver for scanning scan for ephemeral ID signals, for detecting an ephemeral ID signal from a smart-device of a user not permanently associated with the user, for outputting to the smart device, reader data, in response to the ephemeral ID signal, and for receiving from the smart-device a first authorization server token, a processor coupled to the transceiver for determining whether the first token is valid, and for determining user data in a payload portion of the first token, a transmitter for transmitting the user data to a peripheral control unit, wherein a data protocol is selected from a group consisting of: Wiegand and OSDP, and the peripheral control unit for directing a peripheral device to perform a user-perceptible action in response to the user data.
