Abstract: A device for measuring an analyte concentration level in a subject. The device includes: a light source configured for illuminating at least a portion of an anterior region of an eye of the subject with incident light having a substantially broad illumination spectrum at an angle substantially tangential to the surface of the eye; an optical collector configured for detecting reflected light from the at least a portion of the anterior region of the eye; an analyzer configured for analyzing the detected reflected light; and a processor configured to determine the analyte concentration level in the subject based on the analyzed reflected light.

Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for separating and preserving biomolecules of a biological fluid sample. The apparatus includes an assembly having sides forming a hollow shape having a first opening at one end and second opening at the opposite end, a sample mixing chamber positioned adjacent the first opening within the assembly, the sample mixing chamber from which a flow of the biological fluid sample is actuated in a direction from the sample mixing chamber to the first matrix layer, the sample mixing chamber being in a direction downstream of the first opening, a first valve positioned between the sample mixing chamber and the first matrix layer, the first valve configured to control the flow to the first matrix layer, a first input in fluid communication with the sample mixing chamber and positioned upstream of the first valve, a second input positioned between the first matrix layer and the second matrix layer, and a second valve positioned between the second matrix layer and the second opening, the second valve configured to control the flow to the second matrix layer.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for moiety specific sample extraction from a complex sample matrix in a flow through process is provided. The present invention relates to an integrated membrane for separation and preservation of biomolecules. Classes of biomolecules, for example, those in blood, can be separated and preserved. For blood separation, the apparatus includes a housing having a matrix portion, and a fluid collection portion disposed within an inner cavity thereof. The housing also includes an aperture permitting access to the inner cavity. The apparatus also includes a matrix disposed within the matrix portion. The matrix includes a first layer for collecting substantially all cells from the fluid, a second layer for protein adsorption, and a third layer for nucleic acid adsorption. Fluid enters the housing through the aperture, passes through the matrix, and into the fluid collection portion. The method includes passing fluid through a matrix; collecting substantially all cells from the fluid in a layer of the matrix; adsorbing protein from the fluid in a layer of the matrix; and adsorbing nucleic acid from the fluid in a layer of the matrix.

Abstract: A blood fractionating apparatus that enables aseptic fractionation and storing of fractionated blood components, comprises a centrifuge tube including three chambers separated by constricted sealable passages, an open operative upper end chamber, a closed operative lower end chamber and a middle chamber defined between the upper end chamber and the lower end chamber and connected by means of the sealable passages. A stopper with a flapper valve is provided at the opening of the upper end chamber to control flow of fluid to and from the chambers. Abstract: The apparatus of the present invention comprises an integrated membrane for separation and preservation of biomolecules.
