A prosthetic knee provides a single axis of rotation and includes a hydraulic damping cylinder, a microprocessor, and sensors. Based on input from the sensors, the microprocessor selects a flow path within the hydraulic cylinder in order to provide the proper amount of knee resistance to bending for a given situation. The resistance of each flow path within the hydraulic cylinder is manually preset. Changes in gait speed are accommodated by employing a hydraulic damper with intelligently designed position sensitive damping. Moreover, the knee need not be un-weighted to transition from the stance phase to the swing phase of gait. As a result, the knee safely provides a natural, energy efficient gait over a range of terrains and gait speeds and is simpler, less costly, and lighter weight than the prior art.

A mechanism to connect the supporting portions of orthopaedic implants such as in the head, spine, upper limb and lower limb and thereby prevent loosening and fretting at the implant interface of an orthopaedic implant construct has been developed based on shape memory effect and super-elasticity of shape memory materials such as nickel-titanium (nitinol or NiTi) shape-memory-alloy, without the use of typical threaded fastening technique. Advantages are conferred by making the entire device, not just connecting pieces, out of shape memory alloy and having shape memory effect and super-elasticity. A gaming system includes a plurality of gaming machines and a continual game sequence including a plurality of symbols and a plurality of sessions. Each session includes a number of games. At the beginning of a game sequence, the gaming system draws all of the symbols. When the number of games of the current session has been played without a winner, the game sequence proceeds to the next session. For each session, the gaming system activates a number of the drawn symbols based on the session number. Upon player activation, a gaming machine generates a symbol subset, marking each symbol in the subset which matches the activated symbols. If the marked symbols match a predetermined pattern, the gaming system provides an award for a player, basing the award on an award pool amount and the session number. As the session number increases, the award provided to the player decreases.

An ink reservoir (10) for an ink recirculating system for supplying ink to an inkjet printhead (14) comprises a first chamber (16) for receiving ink from a main ink supply (12) and having a printhead outlet (24) for supplying ink to a printhead (14); and a second chamber (18) in fluid communication with the first chamber for receiving ink from the first chamber in excess of a predetermined height in the first chamber determined by the position of a transfer outlet (20), the second chamber having a printhead inlet (30) for receiving ink recirculated from the printhead and having a return outlet (40) for returning to the main ink (12) supply ink in excess of a predetermined height in the second chamber determined by the position of the return outlet (40), the transfer outlet (20), in use, being vertically above the return outlet (40). In use of the reservoir, because the transfer outlet (20) of the first chamber is vertically above the return outlet (40) of the second chamber, this produces a pressure differential that causes flow of ink from the first chamber (16) to the printhead (14) via the printhead outlet (24), through the printhead (14), with unused ink returned to the second chamber (18) via the printhead inlet (30). The unused ink is then returned to the main supply (12) for reuse, thus circulating surplus ink through the system. The arrangement thus uses gravity to produce the ink flow through the printhead (14), without the need for pumps, level sensors, valves etc. The ink reservoir is self-regulating, with the ink heights in the first and second chambers, and hence the pressure differential, determined by the relative heights of the two outlets.

A drop in the throughput of continuous printing operations caused by refilling a subtank with ink is suppressed. The control unit of an inkjet printer 1 fills subtanks 11a-11d with ink whenever ink consumption exceeds a reference volume q during continuous printing. Ink is suctioned by producing negative pressure in subtanks 11a-11d during the ink refill operation while ink continues being supplied to the inkjet head 7 from pressure adjustment chambers 13a-13d disposed between subtanks 11a-11d and inkjet head 7. Ink ejection from the inkjet head 7 can therefore continue even during the ink refill operation. By setting the volume of the pressure adjustment chambers 13a-13d greater than at least the amount of ink that is ejected during the ink refill operation, there is no need to interrupt printing in order to replenish the ink supply.

Cooperating instrumentalities maintain and position the extractor pin relative the tool such that, when a force is applied to the tool, the free end of the shank portion of the pin engages with and forcibly extracts the retaining pin from the digging tooth. Preferably, the tool further defines a plurality of openings for snugly accommodating a series of retaining pins therein.

A carabiner with a generally C-shaped body includes a first end and a second end located on opposite sides of an opening. A primary gate is mounted to the second end and is rotatable about a first axis perpendicular to a plane that bisects the C-shaped body between a closed position with the primary gate engaged with the first end and the C-shaped body enclosing an interior region, and an open position with the primary gate located generally in the interior region. A secondary gate is attached to the primary gate and adapted to be displaced in the plane relative to the primary gate between a closed configuration that separates the interior region into a first portion and a second portion, and an open configuration that provides access to the interior region.

An assist handle includes a hinge and a bar having a global axis. The bar is rotatable about the global axis between a first position and a second position. A spring biases the bar toward the second position. A sleeve is defined by either the bar or hinge, and is generally aligned with the global axis. A pin is operatively attached to the other of the bar or hinge and is partially disposed within the sleeve. The pin is configured to allow rotation between the hinge and the bar. The pin includes a wide portion and an undercut portion smaller than the wide portion. The undercut portion creates at least one clearance region between the pin and the sleeve.

A family of reversible hinges includes a strap hinge, a tee-hinge and a screw hook hinge. Each of the strap hinge, tee-hinge and screw hinge includes a universal strap leaf, a secondary strap leaf, a removable hinge pin and at least one bearing. The universal strap leaf is interchangeable between each of the strap hinge, the tee-hinge and the screw hook hinge, creating commonality amongst the family of reversible hinges, thereby reducing tooling costs and inventory levels associated with the family of reversible hinges. Further, the at least one bearing is manufactured from an acetal material to reduce hinge noise and prevent rust-lock.
