A system for the slow purge of a fuel cell stack. A pump can be used to keep the coolant circulating, so that the stack, an associated radiator, and coolant plumbing therebetween are maintained at the same temperature. The heat from the stack, liquid coolant, and radiator can be used to provide the heat of vaporization of the liquid in the stack, and the liquid water can be removed from the stack as water vapor. Because the air flow rate is relatively low, there is sufficient time for the water to vaporize and for the air to come to the same temperature as the stack, which is also facilitated by high surface area for heat transfer. Purge air can be drawn into the stack through the radiator, via a purge air blower, which preheats the air to help avoid frigid air contacting the stack.

A technique for heating a fuel cell stack at stack start-up that includes using the vehicle motor drive system to generate waste heat independent from providing traction. Particularly, at fuel cell stack start-up, the electric traction inverter associated with the traction motor that drives the vehicle is controlled so that command signals provided by an inverter to a traction motor do not provide motor torque, but dissipates power into the motor windings and/or motor structure as waste heat. Thus, the output power generated by the fuel cell stack can be made high enough to quickly heat the fuel cell stack through inefficiencies in the stack operation, without providing driving torque. Additionally, the electric traction inverter can be operated so that waste heat is generated within the semiconductor power switches in the inverter.

An inertial (mass) body is relatively rotatably provided on a V gear. Further, a ring is provided at the outer peripheral side of the V gear so as to be rotatable and displacable in the rotational radial direction of the V gear. When the V gear is suddenly rotated with a spool, the mass relatively pivots to the side opposite to the side of the pull out direction, and displaces to the outside in the rotational radial direction of the V gear. By doing so, an inner peripheral portion of the ring contacts with an outer peripheral portion of the V gear, and the ring rotates with the V gear. Due to this a pressing portion provided at an outer peripheral portion of the ring displaces an interlocking pawl, meshing the interlocking pawl with ratchet teeth on an outer peripheral portion of the V gear.

A cartridge for an electrohydrodynamic spraying device and a spraying device incorporating the cartridge, where the cartridge includes a locking mechanism. The cartridge is disposable, and can contain therapeutic or other fluid products. The fluid is delivered from the cartridge by a shaft-mounted piston, while the locking mechanism can be selectively engaged with the shaft such that in the engaged position, the locking mechanism prevents the piston from advancing by inhibiting movement of the shaft. When the locking mechanism is disengaged from the shaft, the shaft and piston are free to move, such as in response to a power source in the spraying device. The selective engagement between the locking mechanism and the shaft during periods of inoperability of the spray device prevents the buildup of fluid pressure in the cartridge that otherwise could blurt out upon subsequent operation.

This invention is a paperboard box and a lid having a paper with a design placed on the outside surface. The paper is held in position by being glued to the inside of the finished carton. The box or lid has four squared corners. The finished decorative box has adhesive on the interior panels and may be shipped in flat form and erected at or near the point of use. Because the paper is thick it is difficult to form square corners on the box or lid. The box or lid has a paperboard web between a side panel and an end panel which is folded to make a square corner. It has been found that a slit can be cut in the paper bisecting the corner which will allow the paper to be folded without bunching and making an attractive square corner. Once the slit is cut in the paper the side and end panels can be folded to produce a square corner without any bulging paper. The bulging paper is not attractive as a gift-wrap box and also may prevent the locking of the corner as required to form a box and lid with square corners.
