The image processing apparatus includes: a condition determining unit that determines whether a captured image obtained through imaging of an imaging unit satisfies a preliminary composition condition which is based on the main composition condition; a processing unit that executes a process of obtaining a preliminary image as an image satisfying the preliminary composition condition in accordance with the determination result of the condition determining unit; and an image processing unit that generates the main image by processing the preliminary image obtained through the process based on the main composition condition.
