A method includes determining user presence information based on tracking of user movement patterns, wherein presence is a user's characteristic location in a given time period, determining at least one connectivity characteristic in each of multiple data channels available to the user for running a mobile device application based on the user presence information, comparing the multiple data channels based on the at least one connectivity characteristic in each data channel in connection with priority specified by the user and/or at least one requirement of the mobile device application, and automatically selecting the data channel for running the mobile device application to maximize utility based on priority of the application and/or the at least one requirement of the mobile device application.
