In charging, above-mentioned process will be reversed. The rechargeable zinc ion battery comprises a cathode formed from a compressed mixture of alpha manganese dioxide particles, electrically conductive particles and one or more binder(s); a zinc anode separated from cathode; an aqueous electrolyte contains zinc ions in which the pH value may be controlled between 4 and 7.
