A method of classifying a workload of a software service may include, for example, sampling a plurality of values of at least one parameter of the software service by performing out-of-band monitoring of the at least one parameter; and classifying the workload of the software service by selecting a workload classification from a plurality of predefined workload classifications based on the plurality of values.
