An icon for each processing function which each of several devices connected to a network has is displayed on a screen, several pieces of information being managed in the document management system are listed, and a user-desired piece of information is selected among the listed plurality of pieces of information based on the user's selection operation. The setting contents set for the selected information are acquired, it is determined whether or not each processing function of the displayed several devices can process the selected information according to the acquired setting contents, the display form of the displayed icon is changed based on the determination result so that it is possible to distinguish between the processing function of a device which can process the selected information according to the acquired setting contents and the processing function of a device which cannot do so.
