In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may receive, from a base station, a broadcast message associated with initial access. The UE may monitor, for an additional message from the base station, a set of monitoring occasions that are non-consecutive across slots, based at least in part on the broadcast message. In some aspects, the set of monitoring occasions are non-consecutive across slots based at least in part on a stored rule that uses a subcarrier spacing. Numerous other aspects are described.
