The first detecting section detects a person present within a predetermined range from the image forming apparatus. The second detecting section detects an eye gaze of the person detected by the first detecting section. When, during a power saving state of the image forming apparatus, the first detecting section detects a person and the second detecting section detects an eye gaze of the person directed in a predetermined direction, the control section wakes up the image forming apparatus from the power saving state and allows the display section to display a predetermined screen according to the direction of the person's eye gaze detected by the second detecting section.
