In the method, a combined inter coding unit mode indicator is received. Inter-prediction information for one of a plurality of blocks in a current picture is received and the inter-prediction information includes motion information of the one of the plurality of blocks. Each of the plurality of blocks is reconstructed according to the inter-prediction information of the one of the plurality of blocks based on a determination that the combined inter coding unit indicator indicates that each of the plurality of blocks partitioned from a parent block is associated with the inter-prediction information of the one of the plurality of blocks.
