The image forming apparatus includes a determining section, a first acquiring section, a second acquiring section, a specifying section, and a notifying section. The determining section determines whether or not an event has occurred involving interruption to an operation through which the image is formed. The first acquiring section acquires identification information for identifying terminal devices respectively associated with a plurality of users. The second acquiring section acquires history data indicating use history of the recording medium for each of the users. The specifying section specifies at least one user of the users based on the history data when occurrence of the event has been determined. The notifying section notifies a terminal device corresponding to the specified user of a message prompting work to resolve the event.
