The statistical information calculation unit calculates at least a luminance of a high luminance portion in a luminance distribution of the image data from statistical information of each local region of the image data. The correction coefficient calculation unit calculates a correction coefficient to perform contrast correction. The contrast correction unit performs the contrast correction for each local region of the image data on the basis of the correction coefficient calculated by the correction coefficient calculation unit.
