A control unit of the image processing apparatus returns the value indicating the status conforming to a specification determined according to the designation in response to a request issued at the predetermined time interval from the host. The control unit further returns the value indicating the status conforming to a specification determined according to the designation in response to a request issued at a time interval shorter than the predetermined time interval from the host in a case where it is determined by the host that the former returned value indicates an abnormal state of the image processing apparatus.
