A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a set-top box having a controller to receive a selection of media content that has finished being broadcast where the selection is of the previously broadcast media content, transmit a request for the media content, and receive the media content for presentation at the display device, where the media content includes a plurality of segments, where one or more of the segments is provided by each of a plurality of digital video recorders (DVR's) that have recorded the media content, where the DVR's are remote from the set-top box, and where the plurality of segments are merged prior to presentation by the set-top box.
